1895 Tarlton House
Where Victorian elegance meets Southern hospitality!

This was a wonderful time away from home. I do believe we will come back again and again and again.
Willie and Charlotte B., Dallas, TX, March 21, 2008

We enjoyed the comforts and hospitality. The breakfasts were delicious and the movies were a nice way to relax on a very rainy day. We achieved our goal--get away from the rat-race and we relaxed! What a great welcome from Rusty every time we came in. David was a great host.
Brian and Melanie P., Garland, TX, March 19, 2008

This was our first stay in a B&B and it was a wonderful experience. We loved the house and history. David & Teresa were great hosts (not to mentin a great cook). I can't wait until we do this again. Thank-you for a wonderful time!

*Notes about Fritz, the gnome:

Fritz is a kindly forest gnome, about 18 inches tall. Of course he seems much taller because of his hat. At 277 years of age he's in the prime of his life. He was here when the Tarlton House was built in 1895, and chose to stay even though forest gnomes tend to retreat deeper into the woods when humans move in the area.

His red cap is more than just a handsome fashion statement. It's essential protection against unsuspected blows from above: falling berries, twigs, acorns, pecans, heavy rain & Texas hailstones. Legend has it, a wise gnome would rather lose his shirt than his cap! Fritz can see the front porch from his tree home and enjoys listening to human conversation, especially when large groups gather and laugh a lot. Old-timers say that Fritz has elevated practical jokes to an art form.

Fritz lives in three trees: one has the living quarters and workshop, another tree is the hidden entrance, and then the third is the supply room, with grains, beans, potatoes, nuts and everything else he may need during the winter. Fritz especially loves gems and jewelry, and is considered by many to be the best gem cutter and jeweler in the area.

Like most gnomes, Fritz never worries, is 7 times stronger than a man, can run as fast as 35 miles per hour, and has better sight than a hawk. These abilities help him do many things, such as find wounded animals, for which he becomes caretaker. Because of his love for animals, all the animals of the wooded area around the city park (3 blocks north) are the Gnome's friends and are willing to help him at any time.

Fritz is generally vegetarian. His diet consists of nuts (pecans, hazelnuts, walnuts, beechnuts, etc), mushrooms, peas, beans, a small potato, applesauce, fruit, berries (all kinds), tubers, spices, vegetables, and preserves for dessert. As a beverage, Fritz drinks mead dew, a fermented honey, fermented raspberries (which have a very high alcohol content), and spiced gin as a nightcap.

We were thrilled to discover that Fritz lived in our yard. He is such an asset to the neighborhood. Things wouldn't be the same without him.

It takes quite a bit of trust in people to risk all the wonderful amenities of this beautiful home by welcoming in 7 high school students for a two-day stay!
The kids experienced what true hospitality is: A warm, friendly and inviting environment with a rich history, hosted by a kind and generous couple.
Welcome to Texas! You fit right in! Best of Luck and God Bless!
Darrin D., Snyder, TX Chapter 1 Sponsor, May 8-10, 2008

Thanks, David, for your hospitality. We loved the house with stained-glass, mantels, and good food. The icing on the cake was meeting Dr. Chen and going to his concert. Bless you and your family.

We had a great time. Thank you very much for the hospitality and warmness of a lovely Bed and Breakfast home. We enjoyed hearing the history of the house. We needed the peaceful atmosphere away from the Metroplex. God bless you as you minister to others here.

We were exhausted when we arrived here and were so thankful to be greeted by a smiling face and a beautiful house. Staying here on our honeymoon was one of the best decisions. Thank you for making our stay here one that we will never forget. You made us feel like we were coming home.
Aaron and Elizabeth D., December 21, 2007

I want to thank you for your great hospitality and all the accommodation with my family. This was their first experience in a BnB, and they all have great comments and they were very impressed with the whole experience. This was my 5th time on a BnB around the US and by far this was my favorite, the most beautiful house and the best host. Definitely I will tell my co-workers about the Mystery weekend and hopefully I will come back.
Gilberto R., Austin, TX - Nov 11, 2007
